Udupi Relief Project

The Sakleshpur Relief Project was a dedicated emergency response organized by the Dar ul Huda Charitable Trust through its Kapada Bank (Cloth Bank) to assist families devastated by heavy rains and flooding in the Sakleshpur region of Karnataka. Recognizing the immediate vulnerability of the highland communities, the Trust mobilized its Udupi-based logistics team to provide direct physical aid to those who had lost their homes and possessions to the monsoon fury.

The Severity of the Floods

The floods in Sakleshpur were particularly dangerous due to the unique geography of the region:

  • Devastating Landslides: The heavy rainfall triggered massive landslides across the Western Ghats, which not only buried homes but also blocked major highways (like NH-75), completely isolating the town from emergency services for days.

  • Flash Floods & River Surges: The Hemavathi River and local streams rose with extreme speed, creating “wall of water” conditions that swept away livestock and damaged the foundation of hundreds of rural houses, leaving many families with only the clothes on their backs.

Dar ul Huda Relief Items List

According to the project details and the community appeal, the Trust focused on a comprehensive list of survival and sanitation items to help victims recover. The items provided included:

1. Apparel & Bedding (Kapada Bank)

  • Clothing: New and wearable garments for men, women, and children.

  • Sanitary Wear: Specific inclusions of undergarments and towels.

  • Warmth: High-quality Blankets and Pillows to protect displaced families from the cold, damp conditions of the hill station.

2. Hygiene & Medical Supplies

  • First Aid: Antiseptics like Dettol, cotton rolls, and band-aids to treat injuries sustained during the floods.

  • Daily Hygiene: Toothpaste, toothbrushes, and soaps.

  • Sanitation: High-priority items like Diapers for infants and hygiene products for women.

3. Food & Sustenance

  • Drinking Water: Clean bottled water to prevent the spread of waterborne diseases.

  • Immediate Nutrition: High-energy biscuits and dry snacks.

  • Infant Care: Specialized baby food for young children in relief camps.

Through this mission, the Dar ul Huda Charitable Trust extended its “Series of Relief and Humanitarian Projects” into the heart of the Malnad region, ensuring that the victims of Sakleshpur were not forgotten in their time of crisis.
